Scouting is a volunteer-based organization.


Help comes in many ways. You can be an occasional volunteer, or you can become part of the Pack as a leader or assistant leader.


Pack 2007 is led by the Pack Leaders and the Pack Committee. The Cubmaster and Den Leaders are trained and registered adults who work directly with the boys to have fun while safely completing their Scout Program. The pack committee plans pack meetings and activities and handles the business items associated with running the Pack program.

It's always easier for new volunteers to get up to speed when the current person is around to shadow.

In general, the Cubmaster (sometimes referred to as the unit leader) is the guiding hand behind the work of other pack leaders and serves as program adviser to the pack committee. He or she is a recruiter, supervisor, director, planner, and motivator of other leaders. The Cubmaster's main responsibilities are to:

  • Demonstrate Pack Leadership
  • Coordinate the total Cub Scout program in the pack
  • Work directly with the Den Leaders and Pack Committee to make sure that all dens are functioning well
  • Attending monthly committee meetings to help plan pack meetings and related activities
  • Plan the pack programs with the other leaders
  • Leads pack meetings
  • Opening and closing of meeting
  • Presenting scout advancements
  • Planned monthly pack activity
  • Maintain control and order
  • Announcements
  • Miscellaneous other volunteering and scout activities

Assistant Cubmaster

The Assistant Cubmaster helps the Cubmaster perform the above tasks and serves as a backup in the event the Cubmaster is unavailable.

Den Leaders

The Den Leader is a registered volunteer BSA position. Every Cub Scout Den is required to have a registered den leader. The main responsibilities of the Cub Scout den leader can be summarized as follows:

  • Work directly with other den and pack leaders to ensure that their den is an active and successful part of the pack.
  • (Lion and Tiger Cubs) Coordinate shared leadership among the Lion and Tiger Cub adult partners, ensuring that den meetings and outings are planned, prepared for, and conducted by all adult partners on a rotating basis, and that the den activities provide advancement opportunities for the boys in the den.
  • Plan, prepare for, and conduct den meetings with the assistant den leader and den chief.
  • Attend the pack leaders' meetings.
  • Lead the den at the monthly pack activity.
  • Ensure the transition of boys in the Tiger Cub den into a Wolf den at the end of the year.

Committee Chair

The Committee Chairperson is the primary administrative position for the Pack. Specific duties include:

  • Develop an agenda and chair monthly committee meeting to plan and coordinate Pack activities
  • Coordination of event volunteers
  • Conduct planning meeting to develop a school year calendar of the Pack's events
  • Work with the committee to insure a full slate of den leaders and committee members
  • Work with the membership Chair to complete a Pack Roster
  • Complete the annual Pack Charter in compliance with District guidelines
  • Serve as primary contact with Stinson Elementary regarding Pack needs
  • Take care of the annual charter renewal
  • Coordinate fall membership drive (September through early October)
  • Publicize Cub Scouting and Pack 2007 to Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th grade boys


Specific duties:

  • Gather in revenues and pay bills (usually reimbursements for expenses)
  • Maintain and produce statements of revenues and expenses
  • Attend monthly committee meetings to advise committee on financial status and budget questions.
  • Balance checkbook

Advancement Coordinator

Specific duties:

  • Obtain den advancement reports.
  • Fill out advancement forms for Simon Kenton Council.
  • Check off shopping list for Scout Shop. All badges, segments, sport pins are listed on a form already.
  • Coordinate the purchase of awards at the Scout Shop before the Pack Meeting.
  • Get reimbursement from Treasurer for what is spent.
  • Organize badges and label them for distribution.
  • Divide segments into bags for each den.
  • Get all these advancements to the Pack Meeting and give to the Cubmaster.
  • Assist Committee Chairperson completing pack roster

At-Large Committee Members

There are also volunteers to coordinate the various events and pack outings. Most notably:

  • Popcorn Kernel (Fundraising Coordinator)
  • Blue & Gold Banquet Coordinator
  • Pinewood Derby Coordinator
  • Outdoor Activities Coordinator


This involves maintaining the pack website. Specific duties include:

  • Posting the pack newsletter on the website.
  • Taking/gathering pictures of pack events to make into picture galleries for the website
  • Updating the general pack information as needed (typically in Sep/Oct when dens are formed)
This involves roughly 1-2 hours per month.

Photographer / Public Relations

This person attends pack events to take great photos to use on the website. You must have a digital camera.
Specific duties involve:
  • Taking photographs with a digital camera
  • Organizing and sending photos to webmaster
  • Press releases
  • Gathering information on pack events that might be newsworthy to the community
  • Prepare this information into a release for Church, School, Pack or Local Newsletters and/or Websites
This involves roughly 1 hour per Pack Event.
